Quick tip: Lowering your cholesterol with food

One very prevalent health problem today is high cholesterol.  I won’t go into all of the science of cholesterol and what causes it in this post; instead, I’ll focus on foods you can eat to help lower your cholesterol naturally.   If you put junk into your body, you will get junk out (or the sludge deposited in your arteries).  Fortunately, the opposite is true as well – nourish your body with healthy foods and you will help protect yourself against many diseases and other ailments, like high cholesterol.

Here are a few foods that have been shown to lower cholesterol:

  • almonds
  • apples
  • blackberries
  • eggs
  • oranges
  • cinnamon
  • garlic
  • macadamia nuts
  • oats
  • peanuts
  • pistachio
  • salmon
  • walnuts

Challenge yourself this week to replace one or two foods that you usually eat with foods from this list.  Have some oatmeal with eggs for breakfast.  You could even add some nuts and berries to it and have a delicious and filling meal that will lower your cholesterol in a very natural way.  Take  some nuts for snacks between meals and eat fish a couple times a week.  Combine these food substitutes with regular exercise and you’ll be well on your way to managing your weight and lowering your cholesterol naturally!
